Alcohol-free wine: a growing trend expanding into vending distribution

Alcohol-free wine: a growing trend expanding into vending distribution

Alcohol-free wine, or 0.0% wine, has become one of the most dynamic trends in the beverage sector. According to estimates based on Grand View Research data, the European market for dealcoholized wine reached €960 million in 2024, with strong growth prospects ahead.

Several key consumer drivers are fueling this rise:

  • Greater focus on health and wellness

  • Reduction in alcohol consumption

  • Desire for alternative yet rewarding sensory experiences

Dealcoholized Wine Leads the No/Low Alcohol Market

0.0% wine currently accounts for around 60% of the No/Low Alcohol category—a segment that continues to grow across retail, restaurant menus, and on-the-go consumption channels.

Leading markets in Europe include:

  • Germany
  • United Kingdom
  • France

Non-alcoholic wines are now widely available, with convenient, ready-to-drink formats that are also perfectly suited for alternative distribution channels such as vending.

The Italian Market: Green Light for Alcohol-Free Wine

Italy, too, is experiencing strong momentum. In 2024, the Italian 0.0% wine market surpassed €55 million, marking 39% year-on-year growth.

A key milestone came with the December 2024 decree, which finally set out national regulations for producing non-alcoholic wines, defining:

  • Authorized processes

  • Labeling requirements

  • Technical limits

For 2025, market growth is expected to exceed 60%, driven in particular by 0.0% sparkling wines, increasingly popular among younger, health-conscious consumers.

Alcohol-Free Wine Finds a Strategic Channel in Vending

The entry of non-alcoholic wine into vending distribution represents a major opportunity for producers and brands. Unlike traditional wine, dealcoholized versions are not bound by strict regulations and are well-suited to:

  • Single-serve formats (250 ml cans, 187 ml PET bottles)

  • Refrigerated vending columns

  • Strategic locations such as gyms, coworking spaces, offices, stations, and hotels.

The combination of a health-oriented premium positioning with the convenience of on-the-go consumption makes alcohol-free wine a perfect match for next-generation vending.
